Center-based Services

CENTER-BASED SERVICES

The center-based services provide parent education and support to promote positive parenting skills and to promote a nurturing home environment. LFR offers a variety of services to families with young children – all are open to the community and offered free of charge.

Parenting Classes

LFR offers a series of eight-nine week parenting classes based on Stephen Bavolek’s Nurturing Program  - you can choose morning or evening classes.  There are also three-week classes available.  The classes are interactive, with much discussion, learning and laughter!  While parents attend classes, children have play sessions organized for them.

Workshops

Evening workshops/discussions are held monthly to address various topics of interest to parents---such as discipline, toilet training, eating behaviors, ages and stages, etc. Childcare is provided.

Playgroups

Parent/child nurturing playgroups are offered three mornings a week.  These playgroups are age-specific and loads of fun for both parents and children! Each group is organized around a theme and includes songs, craft projects, free play and snack time. Groups are at 9:30 a.m.

Age 0-2: Tuesday Rockin’ Rattlers

Age 2 and up: Friday Frolicking Friends

Age 2 and up: Monday Mischief Makers

Special Family Events

Special events for families are planned throughout the year.  Activities include holiday parties, evening and Saturday playgroups and activities, field trips, and summer picnics.  Registration is suggested.  See the calendar for upcoming events.

Teen Parenting

Pregnant and parenting teens are offered in-school classes to discuss health and safety, education goals, caring for children, discipline and parenting, and community resources.  Classes are held once a week at Two Rivers High School. Classes are held once a day at Lincoln High School in Manitowoc in collaboration with the hospitals, the Manitowoc Public School system, and the Manitowoc County Department of Public Health. Teen parents have monthly get-togethers to facilitate parent/child interaction and do craft projects.  In-home visits are offered to individualize parenting education.
