Student Success Advocate

School attendance improves with parent participation and mentors . . .

Lakeshore CAP’s Student Success Advocate Program is sponsored by an Early Intervention Grant through Manitowoc County Human Services.

The Student Success Advocate helps families and children attending Jefferson Elementary School in the City of Manitowoc overcome barriers to getting to school on time every day.

Among the many risk factors related to truancy for young children, family and economic factors have the greatest impact on chronic absenteeism in elementary school. Recent approaches have shown a marked shift toward starting truancy prevention before truancy ever occurs.

The emphasis that school districts place on regular school attendance is a reflection of the importance our nation places on education, as well as a recognition that being in school on a daily basis is necessary if education is to effectively prepare a child for adulthood.
