VOLUNTEER! Aug 13th Point in Time Street Count

   PLEASE VOLUNTEER for the Semi-Annual

Point In Time Outreach Event!

A coalition of local agencies and volunteers will be conducting the Point In Time Street Count in Manitowoc, Door, Kewaunee, & Sheboygan Counties over the night of Thursday, August 13, 2020. The focus of the count is to identify people who might be residing on the streets, in cars, campgrounds, under bridges or similar places. Please let us know prior to the Count If you are aware of locations in the community where homeless people are sheltering. Services needed to help the homeless in our communities are a result of identifying these households. The information gathered is used at the state and federal levels to allocate resources for individuals and households requiring homelessness assistance. (See FAQ below.)

2 hour shifts are available between 4AM – 6AM and 6PM – 8PM, Thursday, August 13

NOTE: We ask that you provide your own car due to COVID-19 precautions. We will require masks, frequent hand-washing and social distancing.

Training will be provided before the count

Volunteers must be at least 18 years old.

Be Part of the “No Wrong Door” Solution

Lakeshore CoCIn addition, we are requesting assistance from the community to help us identify locations where suspected homeless people may be staying. If your business is aware of people that do not have shelter or you are a concerned citizen who might have spotted someone you suspect is homeless, please contact us. We can offer assistance and referrals for shelter. Again, please let us know prior to the Count If you are aware of locations in the community (parked car, parks, etc.) where people are staying so we can find these vulnerable people and offer them services.

People experiencing or at risk of homelessness may find housing and get connected to community-based resources through Coordinated Entry. In most counties in Wisconsin, you can get help at agencies that assist homeless people and/or people in poverty. Lakeshore CAP, covering 4 counties, is among those agencies displaying the “No Wrong Door” welcome poster.

Donate Locally to Help the Homeless!

Lakeshore CAP’s Supportive Housing Program in Manitowoc, Sheboygan, Door & Kewaunee Counties has case managers who assist eligible homeless individuals and households — or those at risk of becoming homeless — maintain housing and work towards self-sufficiency. While we receive HUD grant monies, we also rely on private and fund-raiser donations to further our goals in the communities we serve. Please DONATE on this site to help Lakeshore CAP combat homelessness and give our fellow citizens a hand up. Thank you!

SOCIAL SECURITY SERVICES DURING PANDEMIC

Social Security remains committed to providing uninterrupted benefits and vital services the public relies on, especially during the current coronavirus pandemic. As an important part of the community, despite challenges government and businesses face at this time, we want people to know we remain ready and able to help them by phone with most Social Security matters.

You can speak with a representative by calling your local Social Security office or our National 800 Number.  We provide local office phone numbers conveniently online with our Social Security Office Locator.

Although our offices are not providing service for walk-in visitors, we may be able to schedule an appointment for limited, critical issues if we cannot help someone by phone and if they cannot get the information they need or conduct their business online.

We encourage customers to call or take advantage of our secure and convenient online services to:

  • Apply for Retirement, Disability, and Medicare benefits,
  • Check the status of an application or appeal,
  • Request a replacement Social Security card (in most areas),
  • Print a benefit verification letter, and
  • Much more.

Most business with SSA can be done online, but we know many people still rely on phone or in-person help. That’s why we want people to know they can still count on us by phone.

Lastly, we know that getting medical and other documentation can be difficult due to the pandemic. We continue to extend deadlines wherever possible.

For Lakeshore CAP‘s 4 county area:

NOTE: These offices are closed until further notice due to COVID-19. We are still accepting mail and online applications.

Black lives and racial equality matter. The “Community Action Program” was born of the War on Poverty and is, therefore, linked to the civil rights movement. As great social and economic unrest consumes our state and nation, we must renew and deepen our commitment to racial and ethnic equality. We must recognize our common humanity and kinship with all people. Lakeshore CAP stands together with all who work daily toward a more just culture of racial equity and economic opportunity.

YOUR STIMULUS PAYMENT BY DEBIT CARD

YOUR STIMULUS PAYMENT BY DEBIT CARD

MAILED IRS VISA DEBIT CARDS IN UNMARKED ENVELOPES ARE NOT JUNK OR A SCAM!

Nearly four million Americans were sent their government economic impact payment (EIP) by Visa-branded prepaid debit card instead of by paper check, according to the Internal Revenue Service. This is causing many to believe the unmarked envelopes with debit cards inside are junk mail or a scam.

Visit Consumer Action’s EIP debit card alert page for pertinent information, including:

  • Images of what the card looks like
  • What to do if you threw away your card
  • How to avoid fees when using the card
