The Lakeshore Continuum of Care, a coalition of agencies whose goal is to end homelessness in our area, will be hosting the Director of the WI Balance of State, Carrie Poser, for an online go-to meeting for a 2-part series on homelessness in our area. The first part will take place on Monday, February 1 from 1-3pm. The topic will include how local homelessness issues relate to the big picture of homelessness across the state and nation, how to develop a more comprehensive system to address homelessness in our area and how to build our coalition to include local government, school systems, affordable housing developers, public housing authorities, law enforcement, and others for a more complete plan. Part 2 will take place on Monday, February 8th from 1-3pm and will look at local data that can help identify gaps, strengths and begin discussion about next steps needed to strengthen our coordinated efforts.

Manitowoc MLK Day Online Celebration to Honor Peace and Social Justice Legacy of Human Rights Leader
The MLK Day Manitowoc committee will be hosting a celebration Monday, January 18, 2021 from 4-5 P.M. (CST) to honor and celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the entire program will be online and access information will be posted here: facebook.com/MLKDayManitowoc
The planning committee is inviting residents of Manitowoc County and beyond that practice Dr. King’s legacy of peace and social and economic justice and want to learn more. The January 18 program will also feature opportunities for participants to commit to various community service opportunities.
Dr. King was a staunch believer in community service, a supporter of working people and unions, helped develop and support numerous educational opportunities for children and others, raised critical questions about priorities including the costs of war versus social needs and put forth demands such as: jobs or incomes. These contributions of Dr. King will be featured during the January 18 program and leading up to the event on the MLK Day Manitowoc Facebook page.
The planning committee will be meeting often and regularly throughout the next few weeks. For interviews and updates, see above information.
