NATIONAL PARENTS AS TEACHERS DAY!

Take some time to teach your children something new!

Use #ParentsAsTeachersDay to post on social media!

National Parents as Teachers (PAT) Day is being observed on November 11, 2019. On this day, the Parents as Teachers Organization offers educational services to parents across the country. Every day, the PAT affiliates give parents of young children support and provide information so all children learn, grow and develop to realize their full potential.

Parents as Teachers is celebrating 35 years of building strong communities, thriving families and children that are healthy, safe and ready to learn. The concept for Parents as Teachers developed in the 1970’s when Missouri educators noted that children were beginning kindergarten with varying levels of school readiness. Research showed that greater parent involvement is a critical link in the child’s development of learning skills, including reading and writing.

LAKESHORE CAP “PARENTS AS TEACHERS PROGRAM”

Lakeshore CAP offers family-focused services to expectant mothers/parents and families with new babies in Manitowoc County. Children who have nurturing, healthy and supportive experiences in their early years are much better prepared to succeed in school and life. Parent Educators work around your schedule and address issues such as:

  • Maternal and child health
  • Positive parenting practices
  • Safe home environments
  • Discipline
  • Community resources
  • Access to services

Weekly home visits provide individuals and families with educational information and parent-child activities to support parents as their child’s first and most important teacher! As part of the program, monthly group activities give families a wonderful opportunity to meet other parents with children of similar ages. Following a community partner referral or a self-referral, a Parent Educator will contact you to determine if you are eligible and if the program is a good fit for your family.

Please see our web page at https://lakeshorecap.org/pat-home-visiting/ where you’ll find a calendar of Manitowoc area events, simple activities for children and a listing of our Parent Café dates — or call 920-682-3737 to be put in touch with a Parent Educator for more information.

VOLUNTEER! Lakeshore CoC Committee

VOLUNTEER! Lakeshore CoC Committee

PLEASE LEND YOUR VOICE TO THIS IMPORTANT ISSUE!

Opportunity to Serve on the Lakeshore CoC Steering Committee

Lakeshore CAP is seeking individuals and agencies to help steer and direct funding for those who are homeless in our service area of Door, Kewaunee, Manitowoc, and Sheboygan counties. Currently, there are approximately 60 homeless households waiting for Lakeshore CAP’s housing programs in these areas. The Lakeshore CoC (Continuum of Care) Program is designed to promote a community-wide commitment to the goal of ending homelessness.

Continuum of Care is a Planning Process

The goal is to understand the size and scope of the problem of homelessness in a community and design effective strategies and solutions to address it. To carry out the purpose of the CoC Program, HUD requires representatives of relevant organizations (e.g., nonprofit organizations, victim services providers, local governments) to form a Continuum of Care to serve a certain geographic area. Specifically, we would like participation from:

  • A current or former homeless individual
  • Landlords
  • Local government officials
  • Law enforcement
  • CDBG entitlement staff
  • Affordable housing developers
  • Local hospitals
  • Interested community members

PLEASE JOIN US!

Lakeshore CoC Quarterly Meetings

The Lakeshore CoC will meet on a quarterly basis during the months of March, June, September, & December. All members share a common purpose to provide quality services in an effort to end homelessness!

If you are interested or have questions, please call Kate Markwardt, Lakeshore CAP, 920.682.3737
