Homeless/Housing Webinar-Session 2

Homeless/Housing Webinar-Session 2

The Lakeshore Continuum of Care, a coalition of agencies whose goal is to end homelessness in our area, will be hosting the Director of the WI Balance of State, Carrie Poser, for an online go-to meeting for a 2-part series on homelessness in our area. The first part will take place on Monday, February 1 from 1-3pm. The topic will include how local homelessness issues relate to the big picture of homelessness across the state and nation, how to develop a more comprehensive system to address homelessness in our area and how to build our coalition to include local government, school systems, affordable housing developers, public housing authorities, law enforcement, and others for a more complete plan. Part 2 will take place on Monday, February 8th from 1-3pm and will look at local data that can help identify gaps, strengths and begin discussion about next steps needed to strengthen our coordinated efforts.

The Food Pantry in Sturgeon Bay is a non-sectarian, not-for-profit organization that provides on-going and emergency food assistance to low and limited income residents of Door County. The pantry is supported by local donations, food drives and the USDA food program (TEFAP). We are a client choice pantry. We respect likes/dislikes and medical circumstances of our clients. NO ONE is turned away the first time they come to the Door County pantry. We also provide referral information to other programs that might be of help, both within the Lakeshore CAP agency and other community agencies.

NO WRONG DOOR

During the week before Thanksgiving, known as Hunger and Homelessness Awareness week, you might notice signs around your community connected to the hashtags on this post. These signs were distributed by Lakeshore CAP regarding our Supportive Housing Program.

Within the program, a process called Coordinated Entry is used in an effort to refer those seeking housing assistance to the most appropriate services available. The flyer gives a brief explanation regarding Coordinated Entry and which agencies participate. Any agency that displays the No Wrong Door image is an agency that someone seeking a referral to Coordinated Entry system can go to for that referral. In addition, passionate community members are encouraged to contact any of these agencies for volunteer and community support opportunities.

The following agencies on the Lakeshore (Sheboygan, Manitowoc, Door, and Kewaunee Counties) participate: Lakeshore CAP, The Salvation Army of Sheboygan, Incourage, The Haven of Manitowoc County, and Hope House of Manitowoc County.
